I have been working on lots of different things and concentrating a little on some projects for my own home. In a previous post I showed you the chandelier that my husband was kind enough to bring home for me from it's abandoned state on a property that his company is working on. He knows that if I caught wind of him NOT bringing it home he would hear about that for a long time! I knew just what I wanted to do with it....and YES, the patina is natural from being outside in the south Florida elements for who knows how long.
As I mentioned before, it was too far gone to rewire....so it's now a candelere, rather than a chandelier. Here is the finished piece, which I love.....
I have it hanging in my kitchen over the island right now and will light the votives tonight and see how it looks, but I think it's going to end up on our covered patio with some faux candles (we call them "fandles")....
I went shopping snooping in a friend's garage the other day and saw this very, very long vintage French style dresser. She told me that she was planning on selling it and I nearly fainted when she said $30! We just brought it over today and this is where it will go, but after a transformation. It's going to be great for linen storage and replace the vintage white French caned table that's been there for awhile.....which is going behind my white tufted sofa.
I plan on refinishing it with some applique work and a milk paint finish. You'll see.....
Been working on lots of new things for the shop (dress forms, teacup chandelier), and opening up a new category with supplies that are pretty and feminine for all of you crafty ladies out there:-). You'll find silk ribbons from France, sachets, pretty vintage wallpapers, gift tags, millinery and more.......soon!
I have also been devoting a good deal of my days caring for this guy....my darling almost 10 yr old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is not well. I'll spare you the details, but Murphy has congestive heart failure and is on the decline. If you have pets you know how they are so special, so if you can, please think some good thoughts for him.....
See you soon my friends....leave a comment, I love to read them and hear from you
****NOTE****I've had a lot of traffic on this post via Homebound magazine. This blog post was written a year ago, and shortly after the post our darling Cavalier Spaniel passed away from his heart disease. Thank you for your kind and caring comments, means a lot to me...xo

ReplyDeletei am Sooo in LOVE with your candlelier & i'm hoping you won't mind if i "lift" your idea. i've come across the chandelier & i'm on my way this weekend to buy the jars! =) the only thing is ... can you pretty pretty please tell me HOW you drilled them??? while i've worked with several tools & love them all i've Never done anything like that. any information & advice would be Greatly Appreciated! thanks in advace :)
ReplyDeleteThe verdigris on the metal paired with the blue glass is kismet. I have a collection of these old blue jars... there's just something so cheerful about them. Your homemade fixture farmhouse glamorous. I love it.andrea@townandprairie
ReplyDeleteI found a picture of your candelier on pinterest a while ago and it wasn't linked to the whole tutorial. (I just found this one with the link and followed it here.) I fell in love with the picture right away and was inspired to create my own version. You can see it at my blog ( http://www.lydia-lane.com/blog/?p=206 ) If only I'd known of this tutorial before I made it, I might have asked how you drilled your jars to make them work upright. But I am really quite happy with how it turned out anyway. Thank you so much for your inspiration. - Heidi
ReplyDeleteI really love this chandalier.. the color is amazing.. I hope it's okay, I featured it on my new home decor blog here:

Thank you so much for sharing! I am your newest follower :0)
I love the chandelier, in fact, a distant r4elative (my ex-sister-in-law) gave me GAVE me one that belonged to her aunt. I cherish it, but it is on my deck, gathering it's patina (it wasn't in good shape to try and include in the house).SO...it has those screw-like-type things coming out, otherwise, if I can get someone to cut them off, can't I glue the mason jars onto the 'holder' without drilling a hole in them? I hope so, because I love this look!! thank you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteMy Lhasa Apso Bronte also had congestive heart failure, so I feel for you. Murphy doesn't look older than a wee puppy - a stuffed toy puppy I might add - he is absolutely adorable. I realize your post was last year, I hope the little guy is still OK.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Burda

Cheers,
Sandra
